The Things You Leave Behind

Questions:

  1. The passage starts out by saying Jesus’ ministry starts “after John is arrested.”  What is the significance the timing of these events?

  2. In verse 15, many versions have Jesus saying “The time is fulfilled.” In the Message version, Jesus says, “Time’s up.” How does this change of words change the passage or not?

  3. In the age of social media, we can “follow” people.  Jesus calls his first disciples by asking them to “follow me.”  Is there a difference between the two?

  4. The passage says that the first disciples immediately leave to follow Jesus.  How would you react if Jesus said “follow me?”

  5. James and John left their father, Zebedee behind.  How do you think Zebedee felt?
